Drivers' and owners' duties

Drivers must stop, present their licence or permit and give their name and address if they are asked to do so by a uniformed police officer (or in some circumstances by officers authorised by the local government council or Department of Infrastructure) (Road Safety Act 1986 (Vic)). If someone else drives your car, you must also give the police information about that person if they ask for it. Failure to do so carries a minimum 2 year loss of licence if convicted and other potential penalties including jail. (Road Safety Act 1986 (Vic)) The same applies to trailer owners (Road Safety Act 1986 (Vic)).
