What assistance is available for farmers who are experiencing financial problems, or who are considering selling the farm?
The Advancing Australia - Farm Help - Supporting Families Through Change Program (Farm Help for short), formerly the Farm Family Restart Scheme provides payments to low-income farmers who are experiencing financial hardship and cannot borrow more money from their financier. It provides two types of payment - means-tested income support for up to one year, and cash re-establishment grants to assist you and your family to re-establish elsewhere.
If you are thinking of leaving farming through, for example, lease of your property or possession by creditor, make sure you discuss your situation with a financial counsellor, accountant, lawyer, or Centrelink.
Further information about Farm Help can be obtained from rural financial counsellors (see Find a service section).
