Industry regulation and complaints

If you have a concern or complaint about insurance, you should first contact your insurance agent or broker. If this isn't successful, you can contact one of the following complaint handling organisations:

Insurance Ombudsman Service (IOS): www.iecltd.com.au this scheme is free and deals with enquiries and complaints from individual general insurance policy holders. The IOS provides advice in relation to enquiries and assists in conciliating disputes. A decision may be made and in most cases the decision will be binding on the insurer but not you. You retain the right to pursue other legal remedie

Financial Industry Complaints Service Limited (FICS):www.fics.asn.au this scheme provides free advice and assistance with complaints about life insurance, superannuation, funds management and financial investment advice. FICS can only assist with your claim if it does not exceed $250 000 for life insurance, $6000 per month for income protection insurance and $100 000 for funds management, stockbroking, investment and financial advic

Insurance Brokers Disputes Limited (IBD)www.ibdltd.com.au is a free consumer service designed to handle complaints and help resolve problems between insurance brokers and other financial services providers (other than insurance companies) and their clients.

Superannuation Complaints Tribunal:www.sct.gov.au this scheme handles complaints in relation to superannuation.
