The egg industry is serviced by the Australian Egg Corporation Limited (AECL), which was established by the Egg Industry Service Provision Act 2002.

The AECL is funded by a levy on layer chickens payable by the hatchery where they were hatched. The federal government matches these levies with additional funding.
