Selling livestock

Saleyard auctions

Most cattle are sold through the saleyard auction system on a dollars-a-head basis. Vendors can set a reserve price and both parties are in a position to compare quality and price. Auctions usually produce an immediate sale with terms of payment agreed beforehand. At auctions, there is no scope for negotiation between buyers and vendors. If you want to sell you generally have to accept the price on the day.
