Legislation relating to the meat industry
The meat industry is regulated by the Meat Industry Act 1993 (Vic) and the Meat Industry Regulations 2005 (Vic). The Act does not cover meat from a consumable animal if the meat is in a dwelling house, a dried or sealed form in a retail shop, slaughtered for consumption of the farm (see below) or not slaughtered for sale, while the Regulations do not cover poultry or game except for the transportation of poultry.
