Breaches of quarantine laws

Specialist officers of AQIS investigate all serious alleged breaches of quarantine laws. Evidence of a breach may lead to prosecution. In serious cases prosecutions result in heavy fines or imprisonment.

In order to protect Australia 's rural industries, AQIS invites anyone who has information regarding persons or companies suspected of breaking Australia 's quarantine laws to contact AQIS Redline on 1800 803 006.

Prohibited and restricted imports

The Australian Government has developed a list of products which are either absolutely prohibited as imports or which may only be imported with written permission

A full list of such products is available on the customs website at www.customs.gov.au – search for prohibited imports

This list is being regularly updated as required and now includes laser pointers.

It includes for example, uncanned meat products, live animals and plants, fresh fruit & vegetables and firearms.
