Compensation is payable (under normal WorkCover arrangements) under the Emergency Management Act 1986 (Vic) if a volunteer emergency worker (or registered volunteer emergency worker) suffers personal injury or death, or has property damaged or destroyed while under their responsibility (Emergency Management Act 1986 (Vic). This does not apply to a person already entitled to compensation under the Accident Compensation Act 1985, the Victoria State Emergency Service Act 1987, the Country Fire Authority Act 1958 or regulations under that Act (Emergency Management Act 1986 (Vic) would be eligible for compensation under their normal workplace rules.
If your property is taken or used in an emergency you may receive compensation as determined by the Coordinator in Chief. This compensation is to be paid to the owner of the property or any person who has an interest in it (Emergency Management Act 1986 (Vic)).
If, in making a claim for compensation, you wilfully make any false or misleading statement you may be fined $10 000.
