The Extractive Industries Development Act 1995 covers the approvals processes and sets conditions to ensure that quarrying is carried out safely. It also sets requirements for the rehabilitation of land.
No-one can search for or extract stone on your land without your approval. Also, authorisation is required under the Extractive Industries Development Act before extraction starts. Anyone carrying out quarrying must appoint a quarry manager.
Inspectors have the power to enter properties where quarries are operating to inspect equipment and procedures.
